2011 Hunger Report: The Hunger Games

Locally food sourcing is a scavenger hunt. As fixed costs rise the only flexible cost to cutback to make a budget work is the food budget. People then have turn to food banks to supplement their grocery purchases.

What was originally designed as a temporary solution to recessionary pressures in the 1980s has become a fixture of supports, resources and stop gap measures in an attempt to alleviate hunger.

Donate through Canada Helps and sponsor a family for oil - through our Winter Warmth program.  We have 12 families on a waiting list but we have no funds to help them

Utilizing the Internet for research can be both fruitful and fraught with distraction all at the same time.  It’s so easy to leap from thought to thought as you are deep in a thought, and somehow you start at a research council and end up watching a cat play the piano on YouTube.

The United Way of Bruce Grey has released its Winter Warmth report for the 2011 year.  The United Way of Bruce Grey’s Winter Warmth program provides grants, of up to $500 per funding source or utility, to low-income residents.

 

A day in the life....

Working for a United Way is not just a career, a job or something to keep me off the streets, it’s living a life that means really always walking the walk.  It’s sort of like being clergy or a doctor, you’re never off the clock really.  No matter what the social situation, someone will want to discuss work with you.
